Alto Adige, Italy
Ferruccio Carlotto
Ferruccio Carlotto and his daughter Michela farm a small estate of around 6 hectares in Ora, south of Bolzano. It is rare to find Lagrein with this much elegance. It is a powerful, inky wine with fresh balancing acidity and fine tannins. They also make a fine Pinot Nero from the famous Mazzon Cru and a delicious Schiava which shows the very best of this varietal.

All grapes are hand-harvested, sorted in the winery then de-stemmed. Schiava and Lagrein are fermented in stainless steel. The Lagrein is then aged in large old oak with a small percentage of new oak barrels. The Pinot Noir is fermented in large vats then aged in large 22 hL and 225 L barrels.
High Altitude with warm sun provides balanced, concentrated wines.
