This small estate in Alto Piedmont, is a partnership between Dieter Heuskel, Peter Dipoli and the talented and thoughtful winemaker Cristiano Garella. With help from Andrea Zanetta, a local viticulturalist, Le Pianelle represents an exciting producer of Nebbiolo. The first parcel of land, an abandoned vineyard in Alto Piedmont was acquired in 2004. Over the years many smaller parcels have been acquired and two vineyards replanted.
The soils here, made up of marine and volcanic sands, are very different to those found south in Barolo or Barbaresco so the wines can be more approachable in youth but still have the tannic and acidic structure to age gracefully. The wines in this area were famous for their quality a century ago and producers like Le Pianelle will make these vineyards famous again! The two wines are produced in an old house in the centre of Brusnengo. Al Posto dei Fiori, a perfumed and structured rosato and Bramaterra DOC, Nebbiolo underpinned with Vespolina and Croatina.
