Le Marchesine

Franciacorta, Lombardy, Italy

Azienda Agricola Le Marchesine

Le Marchesine, a small and innovative Franciacorta winery, is now one of the most prestigious wine estates of the Lombardy region. It was in 1985 that Giovanni Biatta founded Le Marchesine buying 3 hectares in the Franciacorta region. The vineyards and cellars are now managed by Loris Biatta and his children Alice and Andrea. From the first 3 hectares the estate has grown to 47 hectares of vineyards. The majority of vines are managed with guyot training with 4,000 – 4,500 plants per hectare.

From the beginning, Le Marchesine has distinguished itself by an innovative vineyard management system abandoning the outdated pergola training system and embracing advanced techniques used in France. Their wines undergo a temperature-controlled fermentation using indigenous yeasts in order to preserve the flavours and aromas of Franciacorta. The Secolo Novo produced in great vintages uses grapes from the most precious and historical area in Franciacorta, the vineyard located on the La Santissima hill: the range in temperature on the hills, the clay soil and the wind from the Alps yield unique grapes.
